Barbaresco, 2005

Pio Cesare

Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's north-western Piedmont region. This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Nieve and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo. Similar to its more famous sibling Barolo, Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo and shares its cult status as one of the finest wines in the world.

Chateau de la Riviere, 2005

Fronsac

This wine from the outstanding 2005 vintage is drinking well. The Fronsac appelation delivered what was promised: an old school wine experience with a real sense of place. Very earthy, dusty tannins, minerals, smokey plum fruit, no alcohol jumping out, beautiful balance. Just a great table wine that worked so well with food, cheeses, sausage, etc. Lovely stuff. Chateau Duhart Milon Rothschild , 2005

Pauillac 4th Growth Classification

*** 93 points - Robert Parker ***
Reviews
"This property, which has benefitted enormously from tremendous investments from the Rothschild family that owns Lafite, has turned out a dense purple-colored wine in 2005. Offering broad, expansive, supple and silky tannin as well as loads of Asian plum sauce, blackcurrants, and sweet cherries, this wine is seductive, medium to full-bodied, and luscious. This successful effort from the Rothschilds should continue to drink well for at least another two decades.e robert parker.
